In my years as a dyslexia tutor, I have often been asked whether all forms of dyslexia are the same. Do all dyslexic students face the same challenges? If so, do dyslexia tutors treat every case of dyslexia the same way?
The answer is definitely “no”. In my years of dyslexia tutoring, I have rarely ever seen two cases of dyslexia that are exactly the same. Now, there are often similarities and common symptoms that dyslexics share, but these symptoms do not often effect each student in the exact same way. For example, difficulty with spelling is a common, and fairly universal symptom of dyslexia. However, this difficulty may traverse the entire spectrum; some children may only have difficulty with multi-syllable words, while others may find even three letter words difficult to spell. Another example is with the letters “b” and “d”. Dyslexics often have difficulty these letters, but that difficult can range from a student only mixing them up on occasion, to a student mixing them up on an almost continual basis.
Dyslexia can range in degrees from very mild to very severe, and the specific symptoms that are obvious may vary from child to child. As a result, it’s necessary for a dyslexia tutor to take each case individually and discern the best  approach is to treating a particular child’s dyslexia. Here at Dyslexia Connect Online Tutoring, we individualize each child’s tutoring program to fit their needs and address their challenges, allowing them to make real and consistent progress.
