As a dyslexia tutor, I am often asked by parents how to determine whether their child has dyslexia. They wish to know whether to sign their child up for dyslexia tutoring, or pursue an official evaluation. Unfortunately, for parents, determining whether a child is dyslexic can be very difficult. As I have mentioned in previous posts, dyslexia comes in a variety of forms and degrees. As a result, a dyslexia tutor has a hard time giving a parent a concrete method for determining if their child is, indeed, dyslexic.
For dyslexia tutors, determining whether a child is dyslexic is usually fairly easy after they have had a chance to work with the child. An expereinced dyslexia tutor is so familiar with the signs of dyslexia, and so skilled at seeing where dyslexia manifests itself, that they usually are able to determine quite accurately if a child is dyslexic. However, is it worth it for a parent to enroll a child in dyslexia tutoring, even if they might not be dyslexic?
Fortunately, the answer is a resounding yes. The method we use at dyslexia connect is exactly what a struggling reader needs, whether they are dyslexic or not. For parents, this makes the choice simple; when you enroll your child in our online dyslexia tutoring program, they will be getting exactly what they need to progress, regardless of whether they are dyslexic or not.
