Over the next several weeks, we are going to be sharing resources related to Scarborough’s Reading Rope! The Reading Rope is a helpful visual reference for parents and caretakers of kids who have dyslexia, as well as anyone who teaches kids who have dyslexia.
The concept was created by Hollis Scarborough, a leading researcher of early language development and its connection to literacy, to illustrate the process of learning to read.
Scarborough’s Reading Rope consists of lower and upper strands. Word-recognition strands work together as the reader becomes accurate and fluent. Language-comprehension strands reinforce each other and weave together with word-recognition strands in a skilled reader. Attainment of these skills requires instruction and practice.
